Credit Requirements

U.S. Bank Cash+® Visa Signature® Card is a Visa credit card issued through one of the largest US lending institutions, U.S. Bank. It's recommended for those who want a hands-on approach to earning and managing rewards, especially if their spending patterns vary throughout the year.

Cardholders earn 5% cash back on purchases in two categories of your choice (up to $2,000 in combined purchases per quarter, then 1 percent). 5% back on prepaid air, hotel, and car reservations through the Rewards Center. 2% cash back on one choice everyday category. 1% back on all other purchases.

The Cash+ Visa Signature card also comes with a generous sign-up bonus: Earn a $200 bonus after spending $1,000 within the first 90 days of account opening. Plus, it offers 0% intro APR on 15 billing cycles on purchases and balance transfers. Best of all, there’s no annual fee, which sets it apart from many other rewards cards.

On the other hand, the card has limitations, including a $2,000 quarterly spending cap on the 5% cash back categories, potentially restricting rewards for big spenders. The card lacks the option to transfer rewards to other programs for increased value. Additionally, it imposes fees for late payments, returned payments, balance transfers, and foreign transactions.

Is the U.S. Bank Cash+ Visa Signature Card hard to get?

The card generally requires good credit for approval, making it potentially challenging for those with fair or poor credit.

Is there a limit on the 5% cash back rewards?

Yes, there is a $2,000 quarterly limit on combined purchases in the chosen 5% cash back categories.

Can I redeem cash back for statement credits?

Yes, cash back can be redeemed as a statement credit, direct deposit, or through the U.S. Bank Rewards Card.

How long do I have to redeem my cash back rewards?

Cash back rewards expire 36 calendar months after they are earned.

Can I change my 5% cash back categories each quarter?

Yes, cardholders can choose different categories each quarter based on their spending preferences.

Does the card offer any additional benefits?

Yes, the card comes with perks like zero fraud liability, prepaid travel rewards, and shopping deals through the Rewards Center.

U.S. Bank Cash+ Visa Signature card allows cardholders to pick their spending categories, adds a layer of flexibility.

Many rotating bonus category cards in the market do not allow customers to choose their categories but let the cardholder know what the category is every quarter.

With no annual fee, the U.S. Bank Cash+ Visa Signature Card offers the flexibility to earn rewards without incurring additional costs.

Points can be redeemed as a statement credit, direct deposit to a U.S. Bank account, or as a U.S. Bank Rewards Card, providing users with multiple options to utilize their cash back.

Visa Signature card benefits include concierge services, travel and shopping protections, exclusive access to events, hotel perks, and extended warranties.

The card imposes a $2,000 quarterly spending cap on the 5% cash back categories, which may limit potential rewards for those with higher spending habits.

The U.S. Bank Cash+ Visa Signature card has a foreign transaction fee of 3%. If traveling, leave this card at a home for one that does not have the fee.

There is a balance transfer fee of $5 or 3%, the greater.

Cardholders of the U.S. Bank Cash+ Visa Signature Card need to opt in or choose their purchase categories every quarter. This requires cardholders to keep track of when they need to choose their spending categories.

This can be a pain for some customers to keep track of. If you do not opt in, your spending will default to the cash back on all spending.

Leverage Your Card Smartly

To make the most of this card, you must think strategically.

You can designate categories each quarter, so consider where you will spend the most money in the next three months. If you're planning a large electronics purchase, make sure this is one of your 5% categories.

Furthermore, because utilities can be one of the 5% categories, it may be worthwhile to keep this turned on during the summer and winter, when heating and cooling costs are at their highest.

Compared to other U.S. Bank cards, the U.S. Bank Cash+ Visa Signature Card distinguishes itself with a unique and flexible cash back structure.

Its main competitor is the Shopper Cash Rewards. While it charges an annual fee ($95 ($0 on first year)), it offers higher rewards rate 6% cash back on your first $1,500 in combined eligible purchases each quarter at two retailers you choose, 3% back on your first $1,500 in eligible purchases each quarter on your choice of one everyday category, 1.5% back on all other qualifying purchases. Also, 5.5% back on reservations for hotels and prepaid car rentals when you book through the U.S. Bank Rewards Center..

If you want no annual fee card but with travel rewards, you can consider the U.S. Bank Altitude Go Visa Signature Card. It's designed for foodies with its strong rewards on dining and takeout, the Cash+ card provides broader choices with its customizable 5% cash back categories.

There are also more premium travel cards such as the U.S. Bank Altitude Connect or the U.S. Bank Altitude Reserve, which is a luxury card with a bunch of premium travel perks.

Is the U.S. Bank Cash+ Card Right for You?

U.S. Bank Cash+ Visa Signature card Is best for consumers who are looking to maximize their cash back and do not mind keeping track of the opt-in spending categories.

If you are looking to charge up the card or make a large purchase and pay over time, you may want to look at another card. The high cash back on certain purchase categories may catch many consumers eyes, but if you do not spend large amounts in those categories the U.S. Bank Cash+ Visa Signature card may not be the best option for you.

FAQ

You can only earn 5% on $2,000 of combined purchases across the two categories each quarter. After this, the cash back rate will drop to the base 1%. However, there is no cap on the 2% category.

Pre-approval is available at for the US Bank Cash+ card, but only for offers received via email or mail.

Furthermore, if you are an existing customer, you may receive a pre-approved offer via your online account. There is no online tool for interested potential customers to use to check the status of their pre-approval.

When you complete the online application form, you are submitting a complete application, which will include a hard credit pull.

The initial credit limit for the Cash+ Visa card can be as low as $1,000, but it is usually between $1,000 and $1,500, depending on a variety of factors such as your credit history, income, and existing debt.

If you enjoy traveling, you may be disappointed by the lack of travel rewards and redemption options. There are far better options for a travel card, especially if you have good to excellent credit.

Given that it has no annual fee, the Cash+ card provides some decent rewards. It worth serious consideration if you are looking for an everyday card without having to worry about hefty annual fees.

Credit Card Reviews Methodology

In order to determine the best possible credit cards, we look at things like fees, interest rates and rewards. We do this with companies that are associated with us as partners as well as other offerings. From there, we make a decision about what the best card is related to different categories and needs. We focus on interest rate cost & fees, especially the cost of carrying a balance, rewards – cards accumulate rewards in different currencies—points, miles, cash back—and their values vary widely usability – cards that accept a wide range of credit profiles and offer simple solutions for things like checking your credit score or contacting. We also consider customer reviews.

We look at cards related to good or excellent credit ratings that will then provide a range of different benefits and improvements for someone who has these scores. We also look at low fees when it comes to those who have lower credit scores.
