The Capital One Walmart Rewards Mastercard is a credit card tailored for fans of online shopping and Walmart stores. With no annual fee, it offers a 5% cash back at Walmart.com (including pickup and delivery), 2% cash back in Walmart stores and gas stations, at restaurants and on travel plus 1% cash back everywhere else Mastercard is accepted.

Other benefits include multiple ways to redeem rewards, and a great rewards rate for Walmart.com purchases and in-store transactions. Also, as a new cardholders  you can earn 5% cash back for the first 12 months when you use your card with Walmart Pay for in-store purchases, upon approval

However, it has limitations, such as the requirement to use Walmart Pay for the welcome offer, the absence of extra perks, and a lower ongoing rewards rate for in-store purchases. Also, the card's usability may pose challenges, as the highest cash back rate applies only to online purchases at Walmart.com.

How long does card approval take?

The Capital One Walmart Rewards approval process should be a little simpler. You can get pre approved in a matter of minutes. Once you have pre approval, the full application should not take very long and you should have an official decision within one week.

How much should I spend to cover the card fees?

The Walmart card  doesn't charge an annual fee, so you don’t need to worry about spending a certain amount to cover the costs.

How’s the card customer service availability?

Capital One has phone lines that are open 24/7, so you can access support at any time.

Pros & Cons

Now, let's explore the pros and cons of the Capital One Walmart Rewards card to determine if it's a good fit for your wallet.

Pros
Cons
High Rewards for Walmart.com Purchases
Better Cashback Cards
Cash on Every Statement
Walmart-Specific Focus
No Annual Fee
Complex Welcome Offer Requirements
Sign Up Bonus
Limited Additional Perks
Redemption Options

The Capital one Walmart Credit Card earns cash back at Walmart.com and Walmart app. This includes orders made online and products picked up at local stores. Also, the card earns cash back on Walmart stores, restaurants & travel and gas. This must be at Walmart or Murphy USA gas stations.

The Walmart Credit Card also earns on all spending at everywhere else where Mastercards accepted.

The Walmart Credit Card applies the reward amount you earned in the last billing cycle to your current balance.

You don’t have to worry about building up rewards or when to use them. They are used automatically.

You do not have to meet a spending threshold in order to offset any annual fee. You can start putting cash back in your pocket immediately.

The Capital one Walmart Credit Card  offers 5% cash back for the first 12 months when you use your card with Walmart Pay for in-store purchases, upon approval

The card offers flexibility in redeeming rewards, allowing cardholders to choose from various options such as statement credits, online checkout at Walmart.com, or even gift cards.

There are other cashback cards in the market that offer higher cashback rewards and don’t have the restrictions of being used only at a store.

Some cards have rotating categories, but with a little planning and depending on your spending habits, you can earn more cash back on your purchases that way.

The card's design for Walmart shoppers may limit its appeal, making it less attractive for those who prefer to shop at a variety of stores.

The requirement to use Walmart Pay for the welcome offer and the need to shop in-store at Walmart might be seen as inconvenient and complex for some users.

Compared to other rewards cards, this card lacks additional perks, potentially making it less appealing for individuals seeking extra benefits beyond cash back.

How to Redeem Your Rewards?

The Capital One Walmart Rewards card, on the other hand, has more standard redemption options. There are no minimum redemption amounts, and you can redeem in a variety of ways.

You can use your rewards to get statement credit or “erase” some of your purchases, buy a gift card, book travel, or get a check. However, as long as your account is open and in good standing, your rewards will never expire.

Best Ways to Maximize Walmart Rewards

The Walmart card is one of the best Capital One offers, so here are some pointers to help you make the most of your Capital One Walmart Rewards:

  • Look beyond the Walmart grocery aisle: You'll earn 5% on all Walmart.com purchases, so think outside the box. Walmart sells household items, tools, electronics, and other items, so make sure you get the most out of all of your purchases.
  • Link your card to Walmart Pay: When you pay with your card and Walmart Pay for the first year, you'll earn 5%, so make sure you link your card as soon as possible. This means you can reap the most benefits even if you only come in for one or two items after work.

How It Compared To Other Store Credit Cards?

The Capital One Walmart Rewards Mastercard holds its ground among other store credit cards, but its appeal is largely contingent on one's shopping preferences.

When compared to cards like the Prime Visa and the Target RedCard, the cash back benefits are quite similar. They all offer 5% cash back on their own brands and lower cahs back on selected categories.

The Costco card, while offering competitive rewards on gas, dining, and travel, might not cater as effectively to online shoppers and those seeking diverse cash back opportunities as it offers 4% cash back on on eligible gas and EV charging purchases for the first $7,000 per year and then 1% thereafter, 3% cash back on restaurants and most travel purchases, 2% cash back at Costco and Costco.com, 1% cash back on all other purchases.

On the other hand, the Macy's  Amex Credit Card provides a closer comparison in terms of a department store card. While the Macy's card lacks the high cash back rates of the Walmart card, it does offer various discounts, exclusive events, and the potential for higher tier benefits with increased spending.

Ultimately, the choice between these store credit cards depends on individual spending habits and brand loyalty. The Capital One Walmart Rewards Mastercard shines for avid Walmart customers who predominantly shop online.

However, for those with diverse shopping preferences, the allure of broader benefits and flexibility offered by cards like Amazon Prime Rewards, Target RedCard, or Macy's Amex Credit Card may overshadow the Walmart card's specialized focus.

Is the Walmart Credit Card Right for You?

The Walmart credit card is best for those who are loyal to Walmart and do quite a bit of their spending online at Walmart.com. The real benefit to this card is the online spending rewards and the potential in-store financing.

Many of the rewards offered by this card can be matched or exceeded without the restrictions of shopping at one store. This card is good for customers who may not have the best credit. It is easier to get if you have poor credit than other credit cards in the general market.

This Capital One Walmart Rewards could be great for those looking to rebuild their credit and who are frequent Walmart shoppers. If you have good credit, there are a plethora of other cashback cards in the market that offer better rewards, sign-up bonuses, and perks than the Walmart credit card.

Credit Card Reviews Methodology

In order to determine the best possible credit cards, we look at things like fees, interest rates and rewards. We do this with companies that are associated with us as partners as well as other offerings. From there, we make a decision about what the best card is related to different categories and needs. We focus on interest rate cost & fees, especially the cost of carrying a balance, rewards – cards accumulate rewards in different currencies—points, miles, cash back—and their values vary widely usability – cards that accept a wide range of credit profiles and offer simple solutions for things like checking your credit score or contacting. We also consider customer reviews.

We look at cards related to good or excellent credit ratings that will then provide a range of different benefits and improvements for someone who has these scores. We also look at low fees when it comes to those who have lower credit scores.
