If you’re brand loyal to Wyndham and tend to stay at Hotels by Wyndham properties, the Wyndham Rewards Earner Card could be a good option for you. Although the card is less generous compared to other Wyndham co-branded cards, you don’t have an annual fee to worry about. The card also offers automatic Gold status, which can add some nice perks to your stay.

However, if you tend to stay at any chain, you are likely to find that a general travel rewards credit card would be better suited to you. There are a number of no annual fee rewards cards that offer points or cash back on travel and everyday purchases. You can then redeem your rewards via the card issuer’s travel portal for free hotel stays or flights.

  • 0% Introductory APR
  • Annual Bonus
  • Automatic Gold Status
  • Booking Discount
  • Go Free Faster
  • Flexible Redemptions
  • No Automatic Free Anniversary Night
  • No 0% APR for Purchases
  • Not as Rewarding as Other Wyndham Co-branded Cards

What are card income requirements?

There are no official income requirements, but you do need to have good to excellent credit to qualify for the card. This means that while Barclays will evaluate your income, it is not the only factor that will be considered when making an approval decision.

Can I get pre-approved?

Barclays does not offer pre approval on its website, but the bank may send out mailers or other promotional material offering select customers pre approval for this or other cards.

Does the card provide car rental insurance?

Since this is a Visa Signature card, you can receive collision damage waiver cover for your rental vehicles, if you reserve and pay for the entire rental with your card.

Pros and Cons

Just like any other credit card, the Wyndham Rewards credit card has some advantages and disadvantages:

Pros
Cons
0% Introductory APR
No Automatic Free Anniversary Night
Annual Bonus
No 0% APR for Purchases
Automatic Gold Status
Not as Rewarding as Other Wyndham Cards
Booking Discount
Go Free Faster
Flexible Redemptions

If you want to make a balance transfer to the Wyndham Rewards Earner you can benefit from a 0% APR for 15 months on balance transfers made within 45 days of account opening.

A balance transfer fee does apply and after the promotional period, the standard APR of 20.49% – 29.74% will apply.

If you spend $15,000 on eligible purchases during the year, you’ll receive a 7,500 point bonus on each anniversary year.

As a cardholder, you’ll automatically receive Gold member status with the Wyndham Rewards program. This provides a whole host of benefits including preferred room selection, free WiFi, late check out and more.

Cardmembers can receive a booking discount. You will have access to even more Best Available Rates at participating locations.

Unusually for a co-branded card, you can not only redeem your points for free nights at participating Wyndham properties, but also gift cards, online shopping and more.

You won't be charged any fees for making purchases abroad with the Wyndham Rewards credit card.

Although there is an anniversary points bonus, there is a spending requirement to qualify for this. Unlike many other loyalty cards and programs, there is no automatic free night on your cardmember anniversary.

The card does offer 0%, but this only applies to balance transfers. If you're looking for a 0% card for both purchases and balance transfers, other cards may be relevant.

For example, the Wyndham Rewards Earner Plus has a modest annual fee, but the welcome bonus is more generous and you can earn more points per dollar. Additionally, there is automatic Platinum status and an anniversary bonus with no spend requirement.

In addition to having no limits on the amount of points that you can earn, you can benefit from the Go Free Faster program. This means that you will need 10% fewer points when booking Go Free awards.

Who is the Wyndham Rewards Earner Card Best For?

Since this is a co-branded card, it is best for those who are brand loyal to Hotels by Wyndham. You’ll earn the highest rewards rate with Hotels by Wyndham purchases and award stays offer the best redemption value for your accumulated rewards. You can also benefit from Gold member status, which will enhance your stay experience.

The card could also be a good option if you’re carrying a card balance. If you make the transfer within 45 days of opening your account, you’ll qualify for 0% APR for 15 months. Just bear in mind that a 5% or $5 balance transfer fee will apply to the transaction

Tips for Using the Wyndham Rewards Card

As a hotel credit card, here are the main ways to leverage it maximize your benefits:

As with most reward credit cards, there are some redemption methods that offer a better value compared to others. This program offers Go Free nights and you can receive a 10% discount on the rates, but there is also Go Fast, which allows you to redeem some points and pay the remainder in cash.

If you want to receive the annual bonus, you need to make sure that you hit the minimum spend requirement throughout the year. This requires $15,000 on eligible purchases during the year. So, watch your spending carefully to ensure that you hit this minimum.

This should go without saying, but before you make any bookings be sure to check the best available prices on the Wyndham website. While third party sites may offer good deals, as a cardholder, you can qualify for some excellent discounts when you book directly.

FAQs

If you want to redeem your accumulated rewards, you will need to log into your Wyndham Rewards account. You can then explore the redemption options including gift cards and online shopping.

However, you can also search for hotel stays and view a point and a cash cost. You can then proceed with your booking as normal.

The card does require good to excellent credit, but other than that there are no specific requirements. So, if you have decent credit, you should not have any problems getting the Wyndham Rewards Earner card.

This card would not be a good idea if you have no brand loyalty to Wyndham. If you don’t regularly stay at Hotels by Wyndham properties, you will struggle to accumulate rewards and get the best redemption value. In this scenario, you would be better suited to a general travel rewards credit card.

Compare Wyndham Rewards Earner Card

Surprisingly, despite having no annual fee – the Wyndham Rewards Earner offers higher estimated cash back, which is why it's our winner.

Credit Card Reviews Methodology

In order to determine the best possible credit cards, we look at things like fees, interest rates and rewards. We do this with companies that are associated with us as partners as well as other offerings. From there, we make a decision about what the best card is related to different categories and needs. We focus on interest rate cost & fees, especially the cost of carrying a balance, rewards – cards accumulate rewards in different currencies—points, miles, cash back—and their values vary widely usability – cards that accept a wide range of credit profiles and offer simple solutions for things like checking your credit score or contacting. We also consider customer reviews.

We look at cards related to good or excellent credit ratings that will then provide a range of different benefits and improvements for someone who has these scores. We also look at low fees when it comes to those who have lower credit scores.
