The AT&T Points Plus card from Citi is certainly not the flashiest rewards card on the market, but it does have some nice features. This is a fairly simple card, but it does offer higher tier rewards for everyday expenses and you can earn statement credit on your AT&T bills simply by spending $500 or more with your card each month.

If you’re looking for a card packed with features, this one might not be the best fit. If your main goal is to find a rewards card that offers extras like travel insurance, other benefits, or a generous welcome bonus, you might want to check out other options. There are plenty of no-annual-fee cards that could be a better match for your needs.

  • AT&T Wireless Bills Statement Credit
  • Gas and Grocery Rewards
  • Free FICO Score Access
  • Access to Citi Entertainment
  • AT&T Statement Credit Requirements
  • No Points For AT&T Purchases
  • No Travel Rewards

What are card income requirements?

There are no published income requirements for this card, but you do need good to excellent credit to qualify. This means that while your income will be assessed by Citi when they are making an approval decision, it is not the only factor that is considered.

Can I get pre-approved?

Citi does not have a pre approval check button on its website, but the issuer does periodically send out mailers and other marketing materials offering pre approval to select customers.

How do I redeem rewards?

When you want to redeem your rewards, you will need to log into your Citi ThankYou points account. You can view your balance and explore the redemption options. These include cash back, gift cards and charitable donations. You can also use the Citi travel portal to find flights and hotels, and then use your points as your payment method.

Pros and Cons

Just like any other credit card, the AT&T credit card has some advantages and disadvantages:

Pros
Cons
AT&T Wireless Bills Statement Credit
AT&T Statement Credit Requirements
Gas and Grocery Rewards
No Bonus Points For AT&T Purchases
Free FICO Score Access
No Travel Rewards
Access to Citi Entertainment

Since this is an AT&T co branded card, it should come as no surprise that there are some benefits associated with the brand. However, the card offers a surprisingly generous up to $240 per year in statement credit.

The amount of statement credit is determined by your spending per billing cycle. If you spend $500 to $999, you’ll earn a $10 per month statement credit. This increases to $20 per month if your spending is $1,000 or more per billing cycle.

Gas and grocery are some of the most desirable rewards, especially these days when inflation is high. This card provides a higher ThankYou® Points reward rate specifically for these categories.

You can view your FICO score at any time without any impact to your credit score. This is a great perk if you’re taking active measures to improve your score, as you can check to see if your actions have had an impact.

The scores are updated monthly and you can view them via the Citi Mobile app or online platform. The platforms also provide key factors which are affecting your score, so you can develop a strategy to boost your score.

The Citi Entertainment program allows you to access a variety of pre sale tickets from music and sports events through to culinary experiences and more, using your ThankYou® Points

Although there is an anniversary points bonus, there is a spending requirement to qualify for this. Unlike many other loyalty cards and programs, there is no automatic free night on your cardmember anniversary.

Unusually, since this is a co branded card, there is no points bonus for spending on AT&T purchases with your card.

Typically, co branded cards tend to offer the top tier rewards for spending with the specific brand.

The card doesn't provide any travel rewards, such as rewards points or other travel benefits.

Who is the AT&T Points Plus Card Best For?

Since this is a co branded card, the obvious answer to this is AT&T brand loyal customers. If you’re signed up for autopay and paperless billing, you can receive up to $20 per month in statement credit according to your card spending habits during the billing cycle.

However, this card may also be a solid pick for those looking for a card for everyday spending. You can earn Citi Thankyou points with everyday purchases such as gas and groceries, which provides the flexibility to redeem your rewards as cash back, gift cards, travel or shopping.

While it may not be the most generous reward card on the market, it is fairly no frills and has no annual fee. If you're looking for alternative reward cards, here are some examples:

Tips for Using the AT&T Points Plus Card

The AT&T Points Plus card is quite a simple option, but there are still a few things that you can do to ensure that you leverage its full value.

The first thing that you will need to check is that you have your AT&T account set for paperless billing and autopay.

Providing you spend at least $500 per month with your card, you’ll get $10 or $20 in statement credit each month.

If you’re planning on attending a concert or event, be sure to check out Citi Entertainment before you book anything. This is an often overlooked perk of Citi cards, but you can get some great deals on pre sale tickets.

While this card has some impressive features, it’s worth noting that Citi doesn’t waive the foreign transaction fee. This means you’ll be charged a 3% fee for any purchases made abroad. While it might not seem like a lot, it can add up to $30 for every $1,000 spent. To avoid this, consider using a different card when traveling internationally.

FAQs

You do need to have good to excellent credit to qualify for this card, but there are no other specific requirements. So, if you have decent credit, it should not be particularly difficult to get the AT&T Points Plus card.

This card is not a good idea if you are looking for the maximum possible rewards on your spending or if you need to transfer a balance from another credit card.

There is no 0% APR introductory period and you’ll incur a balance transfer fee of 5% or $5, whichever is greater.

So, you would be better looking at cards that offer an extended promotional APR, so you can pay down your balance with the minimal amount of interest charges.

Unfortunately, the AT&T Points Plus card does not offer any travel insurance. So, even if you book your fares with this card, you’ll not get any automatic coverage.

Credit Card Reviews Methodology

In order to determine the best possible credit cards, we look at things like fees, interest rates and rewards. We do this with companies that are associated with us as partners as well as other offerings. From there, we make a decision about what the best card is related to different categories and needs. We focus on interest rate cost & fees, especially the cost of carrying a balance, rewards – cards accumulate rewards in different currencies—points, miles, cash back—and their values vary widely usability – cards that accept a wide range of credit profiles and offer simple solutions for things like checking your credit score or contacting. We also consider customer reviews.

We look at cards related to good or excellent credit ratings that will then provide a range of different benefits and improvements for someone who has these scores. We also look at low fees when it comes to those who have lower credit scores.
