The NHL Discover It card offers the same purchase rewards as the standard Discover It card with the same cash back match after the first year. But, if you’re a hockey fan and want to show your support for your team, this card can allow you to carry your team logo on your card. You’ll show your team loyalty every time you open your wallet to make a purchase.
While it would be nice for the card to offer a welcome bonus, the 0% APR and the cash back match after the first year should more than make up for it.
So, if you want to pay down a card balance or are planning a large purchase and want to double up on your rewards, this card could be a good option for you. Just be prepared for remembering to activate the bonus categories each quarter or you could miss out on the extra cash back!
- 0% Introductory APR

- No Foreign Transaction Fees

Pros and Cons
Similar to all other credit cards, the NHL Discover It card comes with its own set of pros and cons
Pros | Cons |
---|---|
0% Introductory APR | Bonus Category Must Activation |
Unlimited Cashback Match | Bonus Cash Back Maximums |
NHL Team Logo | Rotating Categories |
Freeze It |
- 0% Introductory APR
Although this card does not have a welcome bonus, you can enjoy a 0% introductory APR for 15 months on purchases and balance transfers . After that, the APR will be 18.74% – 27.74%.
- Unlimited Cashback Match
This is a feature that is common to top Discover cards, but essentially, Discover will match all of the cash back you earn in your first year dollar for dollar. You’ll receive this as a cash back bonus automatically once you’ve completed your first year of card membership.
- NHL Team Logo
During the application process, you have the opportunity to select the logo of any of the 32 NHL teams to be featured on the front face of your card.
- Freeze It
This feature essentially allows you to turn your card on and off as and when required. If you misplace your card, you can freeze it, which will prevent any new purchases, balance transfers and cash advances in a matter of seconds. This feature is available on the Discover website and mobile app.
- Bonus Category Must Activation
While earning up to 5% cash back is possible, it is only available in predetermined categories each quarter.
To benefit from this cash-back bonus, you need to remember to activate the bonus category.
- Bonus Cash Back Maximums
In addition to the bonus categories being predetermined, they also have a maximum quarterly spend. This is typically $1,500 and if you exceed this amount, any sum over and above the cap will only earn the regular 1% cash back.
So, if you are planning a large purchase, you may not be able to maximize your cash back.
- Rotating Categories
Rotating categories may not suit everyone's preferences. Some individuals prefer certainty and have specific spending categories where they want to focus and maximize their returns.
Who is the NHL Discover It Credit Card Best For?
This co-branded credit card is perfect for NHL fans. No matter which division your team belongs to—Metropolitan, Atlantic, Central, or Pacific—you can show your team pride with a Discover card. With all 32 teams represented, you can choose the team logo you want featured on your card.
The card could also be a good choice if you are looking to pay down an existing credit card account or you are planning on making a large purchase. You’ll have quite long 0% intro APR, which could eliminate or minimize the interest charges you’ll pay.

Tips for the NHL Discover It Credit Card
This card is essentially a co-branded version of the standard Discover It card, but there are still a couple of tips that can help you to get the most value from it. These include:
-
Set an Alert Each Quarter
Since the 5% bonus cashback applies only to specific categories each quarter, it's a smart idea to set a reminder to activate the bonus at the start of each new period.
Even if you’re not planning a big purchase, these bonus categories usually align with everyday spending, so you could still earn a nice boost.
-
Activate the Privacy and Security Features
Whether you’re using the app or the online platform, you can easily activate the privacy and security features. These are free services that increase your account and identity security.

FAQs
What are card income requirements?
There are no official income requirements for the NHL Discover It card, but you do need to have good to excellent credit. This means that while your income will be assessed, it is not the only factor considered when an approval decision is being made.
When it may not be a good idea?
This card is not a good idea if you don’t like the idea of needing to remember to activate bonus categories each quarter. If you prefer a more straightforward rewards structure, you may prefer a card that has a flat rewards rate.
Although this may appear to offer lower rewards, you won’t need to worry about categories, as all your purchases will attract the same reward rate.
Does the card provide travel insurance?
Unfortunately, the NHL Discover It card does not offer travel insurance regardless of whether you’ve purchased your fare using your card.
