The Aer Lingus is a co-branded credit card, offering some nice benefits for regular flyers with the airline. Although the benefits package is not as comprehensive compared to some other airline cards, it does have the potential to enhance your travel experience.
The Aer Lingus Visa Signature card provides travel perks such as priority boarding, a free checked bag, and discounted access to airport lounges. Cardholders also receive a companion ticket each year when they meet the spending threshold.
If you don’t fly with Aer Lingus more than once or twice a year, you might be better off with a more general travel card. For instance, the Citi Premier card has a similar annual fee but lets you earn rewards on everyday purchases like groceries, dining, and gas, as well as on hotels and flights. Plus, you can get annual statement credits for hotel stays.

There are no official income requirements for the card, but in addition to needing good to excellent credit, Chase will assess your income to ensure that you have sufficient disposable income to support a new card.
Can I get pre-approved?
Chase does typically offer pre approval for its cards. You can sign in as a customer or a guest to check if you qualify for this or other Chase cards. Alternatively, you may receive a mailer or other promotional material with a pre approval code for the Aer Lingus Visa Signature.
Does the card provide car rental insurance?
Although the Aer Lingus card does offer car rental discounts due to it being a Visa Signature card, it does not have car rental insurance.

Pros and Cons
Just like any other credit card, the Aer Lingus credit card has some advantages and disadvantages:
Pros | Cons |
---|---|
Companion Ticket Upon Requirements | No Lounge or Baggage Perks |
Priority Boarding | Lackluster Rewards |
Baggage Insurance | Limited Reward Flexibility |
Purchase Protections | High Spending Needed for Companion Pass |
DashPass

No Foreign Transaction Fees |
- Companion Ticket Upon Requirements
Each calendar year, if you make purchases of at least $30,000 with your card, you’ll receive a companion ticket. The ticket can be used on travel originating in and returning to the US on economy fares between the US and Ireland.
The certificate is valid for 12 months and there are no restrictions, travel blackout dates, or surcharges on this ticket.
- Priority Boarding
You and any authorized users on the account can enjoy priority boarding on Aer Lingus flights between the U.S and Ireland.
You just need to show your Aer Lingus Visa Signature card when you’re at the gate to enjoy priority boarding, subject to availability.
- Baggage Insurance
If your bags are delayed by your passenger carrier for over six hours, you can benefit from up to $100 per day for three days to reimburse you for essential purchases.
This includes clothing, toiletries and other essentials while you’re waiting to be reunited with your bags. If your bags are lost or damaged, there is up to $3,000 per passenger for you and your immediate family members.
- No Foreign Transaction Fees
You won't be charged any fees for making purchases abroad with the Aer Lingus Signature Card.
- Purchase Protections
When you use your card to pay for purchases, your items are covered for 120 days against theft or damage. The policy has a coverage limit of $500 per claim and $50,000 per account.
Eligible items can also benefit from an extended warranty. This extends the U.S manufacturer’s warranty period for an additional year.
- DashPass
This card offers a one year complimentary Dash Pass, so you can enjoy unlimited deliveries with lower service fees and $0 delivery fees on eligible orders.
- No Lounge or Baggage Perks
Unlike many co-branded credit cards, the Aer Lingus Visa Signature does not offer any baggage or lounge perks.
This means that even if you’re flying Aer Lingus, you won’t get any additional free checked bags.
- Lackluster Rewards
Outside of the airline, the rewards for this card are a little lackluster, especially compared to other Chase travel cards.
If you’re interested in maximizing rewards, you are likely to find that there are far more generous reward cards that are not tied to a particular brand.
- Limited Reward Flexibility
You can only redeem your rewards for limited use on domestic flights. Although there are partner airlines, only American Airlines and Alaska airlines offer domestic itineraries.
For example, you can get access to more than 20 partners if you redeem AAdvantage miles.
- High Spending Needed for Companion Pass
You need to spend $30,000 per year to receive a companion pass. Additionally, the companion pass can only be used for economy tickets.
Other cards in the same category, such as the Alaska Airlines Visa credit card, offer a companion pass with much less spend requirements.
Who Should Consider The Aer Lingus Card?
Since this is a co-branded card, it is obviously designed for those who are brand loyal or frequently fly with Aer Lingus. You can accumulate Avios for award flights, receive priority boarding and qualify for a companion pass. This can enhance your travel experience and accumulate rewards for award flights.
The Aer Lingus Visa Signature could also be a good fit if you want access to a suite of travel insurance coverage with a minimal annual fee. All you need to do is pay for your fares, accommodation or other travel expenses with your card and your coverage will kick in.

FAQs
How do I redeem rewards?
Aer Lingus has an award chart with flight pricing determined by the distance or number of miles flown. There are six pricing tiers, with peak and off peak pricing.
If you’re thinking about redeeming your rewards, you can explore the flight options on the Avios website. If you find a flight, you can see the reward cost before you book as normal or call the Aer Lingus helpline.
How hard is it to get an Aer Lingus Visa Signature card?
You do need to have good to excellent credit to qualify for the Aer Lingus Visa Signature card. Additionally, the card is subject to Chase’s 5/24 rule. This means that regardless of your credit, if you’ve opened up five new credit card accounts within the last 24 months, your application will be declined.
When it may not be a good idea?
This card is not a good idea if you don’t fly with Aer Lingus on a regular basis. You should take at least two or three Aer Lingus flights per year to leverage the value of this card. If you don’t fly this frequently, you may be better with a general travel credit card.
The card may also not be the right choice for you if you don’t tend to spend a lot with your card, since you need spending of at least $30,000 per year to qualify for a companion ticket.
